Gerhard Mercator's maps as a source of geographical knowledge about Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and surrounding countries in the 16th century

The author considers the issue of conceptualization geographical space that is known today as Western Balkans on Gerhard Mercator's maps from second half 16th century, which, even in cases incorrect cartographic representations, it possible to conclude about changes certain objects and phenomena past time. Two Mercator were analysed: Sclavonia, Croatia, Bosnia cum Dalmatiae parte, Walachia, Servia, Bvlgaria, Romania, both 1589. characteristics, symbols context representations relief, hydrography, settlements other are discussed.
